Formats
Rugby formats you can run
Sevens festivals and 15s leagues use the same entry list, so a club can run a one-day sevens cup and a winter league from one registry.
Pool play → playoffs
Round-robin pools first, then the top teams advance into a seeded knockout bracket.
Best for: Sevens festivals that need guaranteed matches.
Single elimination
Straight knockout draw for 4–64 teams, with an optional third-place match.
Best for: One-day cups and short brackets.
Double elimination
Winners and losers brackets with a grand final and reset, for 4, 8, 16 or 32-team fields.
Best for: Events where one loss should not end the day.
Round robin
Every team plays every other team, with configurable points and tiebreakers.
Best for: Small divisions and social sevens days.
Swiss system
Fixed rounds with strength-based pairing and Buchholz / Sonneborn-Berger tiebreakers.
Best for: Large fields that need a fair ranking without a knockout.
League season
Home-and-away fixtures with a table, configurable points and seeded playoffs.
Best for: Club leagues running through a winter.
Workflow
From the first scrum to the final whistle in three steps
The draw, the pitch schedule and the results stay in sync, so you are not rebuilding the bracket after every match.
- 1
Create the event
Pick rugby, set the dates, venue and pitches, then open online registration or import a team list by CSV/Excel.
- 2
Build the divisions
Add 15s, sevens, junior or social divisions, choose a format, set the points target and seed the draw.
- 3
Run the day
Check teams in with a QR code, publish the pitch schedule, enter each result, and let brackets and tables update live.
Rules
Rugby rules and scoring in Brakto
Brakto records results and manages the draw; the referee’s scorecard and match clock stay with your officials.
Tries, conversions and penalties
A try is worth five points, a conversion two, and a penalty or drop goal three. Brakto does not track the clock, halves or player statistics — the referee’s final score is what you enter.
One result per match
Each match is a race to the points target you set per division, with an optional required winning margin. Enter the agreed result and the winner advances.
15s and sevens run to different lengths
Union is two 40-minute halves and sevens is two 7-minute halves with a short interval. Set the division and order of play to match the code so the day fits.
Level results and league points
Decide before the season how a drawn fixture is recorded, and set the points awarded for a win, draw or loss so the table follows your competition rules.
Double elimination field sizes
Double elimination is supported for 4, 8, 16 and 32-team fields; other sizes are rejected with a clear message.

Rugby questions, answered
- What rugby formats can I run?
- Brakto supports pool play into playoffs, single elimination, double elimination, round robin, Swiss and league seasons. Formats are chosen per division, so a sevens festival and a 15s league can coexist.
- Can I run both 15s and sevens in one event?
- Yes. Each division has its own format, match length and eligibility rules, so a sevens division and a 15s division can share one event page and one entry list.
- Does Brakto track tries, halves or player stats?
- No. Brakto records the final result of each match, not tries, conversions, halves or player statistics. Your officials keep the scorecard, and the organizer enters the score against the division points target.
- How much does it cost to run a rugby event?
- Free covers up to 8 players offline (CSV/manual import). Online registration costs a one-time $25 setup, and each player pays a flat $2 service fee added to their entry fee — the organizer keeps 100% of every entry fee. Club is $999/yr (or $99/mo) for unlimited events, with no per-player service fee. Standard payment processing fees apply when players pay you online.
- Can I run a club league with weekly fixtures?
- Yes. A league is an event with a season schedule, configurable points for a win, draw or loss, standings and seeded playoffs at the end of the regular season.
- Can I import entries and check teams in?
- Yes. Import teams by CSV/Excel when entries were collected offline, then use QR check-in at the pitch. Results entered during play update brackets and tables immediately.
