Formats
Netball formats you can run
A carnival and a winter league use the same entry list, so a club can run a one-day knockout and a season table from one registry.
Pool play → playoffs
Round-robin pools first, then the top teams advance into a seeded knockout bracket.
Best for: Carnivals that need guaranteed games for every team.
Single elimination
Straight knockout draw for 4–64 teams, with an optional third-place match.
Best for: One-day carnivals and short brackets.
Double elimination
Winners and losers brackets with a grand final and reset, for 4, 8, 16 or 32-team fields.
Best for: Events where one loss should not end the day.
Round robin
Every team plays every other team, with configurable points and tiebreakers.
Best for: Small grades and club nights.
Swiss system
Fixed rounds with strength-based pairing and Buchholz / Sonneborn-Berger tiebreakers.
Best for: Large age-group fields that need a fair ranking.
League season
Home-and-away fixtures with a table, configurable points and seeded playoffs.
Best for: Winter club leagues and grade competitions.
Workflow
From the first centre pass to the final whistle in three steps
The draw, the court schedule and the results stay in sync, so you are not rebuilding the carnival after every match.
- 1
Create the event
Pick netball, set the dates, venue and courts, then open online registration or import a team list by CSV/Excel.
- 2
Build the divisions
Add age groups or grades as divisions, choose a carnival or league format, set the points target and seed the draw.
- 3
Run the day
Check teams in with a QR code, publish the court schedule, enter each result, and let brackets and tables update live.
Rules
Netball rules and scoring in Brakto
Brakto records results and manages the draw; quarters, positions and the official score sheet stay with your officials.
Four quarters, seven a side
A netball match is four 15-minute quarters with seven players a side, and only the goal shooters and goal attackers may score from inside the goal circle. Brakto does not track quarters or shooting statistics.
One result per match
Each match is a race to the points target you set per division, with an optional required winning margin. Enter the agreed result and the winner advances.
Level results in league fixtures
Decide before the season how a drawn fixture is recorded — the real game can finish level — and set the points awarded so the table follows your competition rules.
Double elimination field sizes
Double elimination is supported for 4, 8, 16 and 32-team fields; other sizes are rejected with a clear message.
Squads, positions and eligibility
Record squads and eligibility per division; positions and on-court rotations are managed by the team officials on the day.

Netball questions, answered
- What netball formats can I run?
- Brakto supports pool play into playoffs, single elimination, double elimination, round robin, Swiss and league seasons. Formats are chosen per division, so grades can use different structures.
- Can I run a carnival and a league in one place?
- Yes. Both use the same entry list and team rosters. Run the carnival as a separate event, or add a league division alongside it with its own season schedule and table.
- Does Brakto track quarters or shooting statistics?
- No. Brakto records the final result of each match rather than quarters, goals by position or shooting percentages. Your officials keep the score sheet, and the organizer enters the result.
- How much does it cost to run a netball event?
- Free covers up to 8 players offline (CSV/manual import). Online registration costs a one-time $25 setup, and each player pays a flat $2 service fee added to their entry fee — the organizer keeps 100% of every entry fee. Club is $999/yr (or $99/mo) for unlimited events, with no per-player service fee. Standard payment processing fees apply when players pay you online.
- Do teams see their court and next match?
- Yes. Teams can follow their fixtures, court and next match on their phone, and scores entered during play update brackets and standings live.
- Can I import entries and check teams in?
- Yes. Import teams by CSV/Excel when entries were collected offline, then use QR check-in at the court. Printable PDF brackets are free for up to 64 teams.
