How to swap partners, replace players, and manage team rosters
Player changes happen — injuries, scheduling conflicts, or simple partner preferences. As a tournament organizer, you can swap out a player in a doubles team at any time from the Players page.
This guide covers three common scenarios:
Use this when both the old and new partners are already registered in the tournament. The system will move the new partner onto the team and remove the old one.
Navigate to your tournament → Players tab to see all registered players.
Find the player whose partner you want to change. Click the ⋮ menu (three dots) on their row.
Under the Team section of the menu, click Change Partner. A dialog will appear showing the player's current team per division.
Choose the new partner from the dropdown list of available players. Only players registered in the tournament will appear.
Click Save. The team name will automatically update to reflect the new pairing (e.g., “Alice & Bob” → “Alice & Carol”).
What happens behind the scenes
The old partner is removed from the team. The new partner is added as a team member. The team name updates automatically. Any existing seeding for the team is preserved.
Use this when a player drops out and needs to be replaced by someone who isn't yet registered in the tournament.
On the Players page, click ⋮ menu → Withdraw on the player who is leaving. This removes them from the team and the tournament.
Navigate to your tournament's Admin tab → Add Player page.
Fill in the new player's name and email. Select the correct division (the doubles division they're joining).
In the Partner field, select the remaining player from the original team. The system will automatically find and reuse their existing team.
Click Add Player. The new player joins the existing team, and the team name updates automatically.
Tip: Team continuity
When you specify an existing player as the partner, the system reuses their team record. This means any bracket placement, pool assignment, or match history for that team is preserved.
Use this to remove a player from a team without immediately assigning a replacement.
Locate the player you want to remove from their team.
Under the Team section of the action menu, click Remove from Team. The player will be detached from the team but remain registered in the tournament.
You can assign a new partner at any time using ⋮ → Assign Partner on the remaining player, or by adding a new player via Admin → Add Player.
Heads up
Removing a player from a team doesn't withdraw them from the tournament. They'll still appear on the Players list. To fully remove them, use Withdraw instead.
Yes. Changing a partner updates the team roster, and the team keeps its bracket position. The team name in the bracket will update to show the new pairing.
Existing match scores are preserved under the team. The swap only changes who is on the team going forward — previous results stay intact.
A player can be on different teams in different divisions (e.g., Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles), but they can only be on one team per division.
For Change Partner, yes — both players must be registered. For Replace a Player, you can add a completely new person via Admin → Add Player.
Yes. The same process works for any doubles format — Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles, or custom team types.
⋮ → Change Partner → Select new partner → Save
Withdraw old player → Admin → Add Player → Select existing partner
⋮ → Remove from Team → Assign new partner later
