How do you run a baseball tournament?
Most baseball tournaments start with pool play and finish in a double-elimination championship bracket, with age groups from 9U to senior. Brakto handles registration, team rosters, diamond scheduling, QR check-in, live results and standings, and prints brackets free for up to 64 teams.

Formats
Baseball formats you can run
Use one structure across the event or mix it by age group — a 9U division can play round robin while the senior bracket runs double elimination.
Pool play → playoffs
Round-robin pools first, then the top teams advance into a seeded championship bracket.
Best for: Weekend tournaments that need guaranteed games.
Single elimination
Straight knockout draw for 4–64 teams, with an optional third-place game.
Best for: One-day events and short brackets.
Double elimination
Winners and losers brackets with a grand final and reset, for 4, 8, 16 or 32-team fields.
Best for: The standard championship bracket for travel tournaments.
Round robin
Every team plays every other team, with configurable points and tiebreakers.
Best for: Small age-group divisions and round-robin weekends.
League season
Weekly fixtures with a table, configurable points and seeded playoffs.
Best for: Summer leagues and club championships.
Swiss system
Fixed rounds with strength-based pairing and Buchholz / Sonneborn-Berger tiebreakers.
Best for: Large fields that need a fair ranking without a knockout.

- 2
Build the divisions
Add each age group as a division, choose pool play or a bracket, set the points target and seed the teams.
- 3
Run the day
Check teams in with a QR code, publish the diamond schedule, enter each final score, and let standings and brackets update live.
Rules
Baseball rules and scoring in Brakto
Brakto records results and manages the bracket; innings, pitch counts and the official book stay with your scorers.
Nine innings decide the game
A game is nine innings of three outs a side, with extra innings to break a tie. Brakto does not track innings, line scores or pitch counts — your scorer keeps the book and you enter the final score.
One result per match
Each game is a race to the points target you set per division, with an optional required winning margin. Enter the agreed result and the winner advances.
Knockout games need a winner
A championship bracket game cannot end level. Settle it in extra innings, then enter the winning score so the next round can be filled.
Double elimination field sizes
Double elimination is supported for 4, 8, 16 and 32-team fields; other sizes are rejected with a clear message.
Rosters, age limits and byes
Set roster size and age limits per division, seed the bracket, and place byes where the field does not fill it.

Baseball questions, answered
- What baseball formats can I run?
- Brakto supports pool play into playoffs, single elimination, double elimination, round robin, Swiss and league seasons. Formats are chosen per division, so age groups can use different structures.
- Can I run pools and a championship bracket in one event?
- Yes. Pool play into playoffs is a first-class format: teams play a round-robin pool, then the top teams advance into a seeded championship bracket automatically.
- Does Brakto track innings, pitch counts or line scores?
- No. Brakto records the final result of each game, not the inning-by-inning book. Your scorers keep the official game record, and the organizer enters the score against the points target for the division.
- How much does it cost to run a baseball event?
- Free covers up to 8 players offline (CSV/manual import). Online registration costs a one-time $25 setup, and each player pays a flat $2 service fee added to their entry fee — the organizer keeps 100% of every entry fee. Club is $999/yr (or $99/mo) for unlimited events, with no per-player service fee. Standard payment processing fees apply when players pay you online.
- Can I manage rosters and age eligibility?
- Yes. Each division can carry its own roster size, age limit and eligibility rules, with captains and player records stored against the team.
- Can I import entries and check teams in on the day?
- Yes. Import teams by CSV/Excel when entries were collected offline, then use QR check-in at the diamond. Results entered during play update standings and the bracket immediately.
